Background
As a UX designer, I was tasked with design and discovery for new features and improvements for Ghostery Insights.
Feature
Tracker timeline sorting and filtering.
Problem
The tracker timeline shows all the trackers that exist on a given website. On more complex pages, it could get tedious for users to find and analyze specific trackers.
Objective
We decided to add a tracker search along with sorting and filtering trackers by category.

Designs
Search
Users will be able to search for specific trackers in the list so they can quickly hone in on vendors that are of interest to them, without having to scroll up and down and find them manually.

Sorting
Users will be able to sort the trackers they see in the tracker list in a way that helps them focus on what’s most important to them, without having to scroll up and down or have to compare stats like latency or size manually.

Filtering
Users will be able to filter the trackers they see in the tracker list using our predefined categories in a way that helps them limit what they’re looking at to only what matters to them.

Background
In planning for the Insights product, we identified several hypotheses we had made about the critical problems faced by our target users and how future Insights features would address them.
Feature
Main objective welcome screen.
Objective
We decided to validate our riskiest assumptions by running in-product experiments asking our users what their main objective was, which would inform future plans for the product.
Constraints
The dialogue had to be unobtrusive and carefully worded, making sure to consider bias and actionable next steps based on results. All the data and conclusions are subject to the impact of self-selection of Insights users.
The dialogue was shown to all users using Insights, question order was randomized each time. The users would select their answer and then be let into the app.
Results
Our hypothesized main objective polled at around 8%, this allowed us to avoid expensive and time consuming development of features that would have likely not brought the value we expected for our users.
